baCta - Revolutionary Resources

❓ The problem

Modern society relies heavily on a wide range of industrial ingredients, from polymers to pigments and specialty chemicals, that are currently produced either from scarce natural resources or from fossil fuels.

• Plant-based resources & natural extraction: limited by geography and climate, relies on seasonal production cycles, and vulnerable to climate and geopolitical risks.
• Petrochemical synthesis: dependent on oil extraction, usually lower quality than natural molecules, responsible for greenhouse gas emissions, and involving toxic production processes.

This creates fragile, unsustainable supply chains that cannot keep up with growing global demand.

💡 Our solution

baCta is building AI-powered bioproduction platform for industrial ingredients. By combining wet-lab automation, AI, and standardized bioprocesses, we make fermentation products 10× faster and cheaper to bring to market.

Our first molecule is astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant derived from β-carotene. We have reached TRL 5, with many milestones reached during the past few months:

• We are running benchtop bioreactors routinely, and are targeting 1 cubic meter in early 2026
• Our genome-to-factory AI model has already discovered a novel enzymatic complex, which we have validated experimentally
• We have secured multi-millions commercial commitments from industrial players in diverse industries (food, cosmetics, nutraceutical, animal feed) and we are targeting a first regulatory compliance in Q1 2026
